Dancers from the Northwest Academy of Performing Arts are set to take their place amongst the best on the continent.
The dancers have just returned from a prestigious international competition, the Youth American Grand Prix. It takes place in many locations in the U.S.; the local dancers traveled to Seattle from Jan. 4 to 7.
A NAPA ensemble captured second overall amongst all ensembles for its Hopak, a traditional Ukrainian folk dance. Its mark of 95.3 percent qualified the group for the finals, which will take place in New York City in April 2018.
Keitha Campeau, director of the academy (which makes its home at 511 Columbia St.), emailed to let the Record know about the dancers’ success.
“It is such an honour for us to have done so well,” she wrote.
